Last week, I wrote about the US shutting off Fable 5. After a government letter, Anthropic's best model went offline for people both inside and outside the US.
At the time, I thought that was the whole story.
Now, I'm not so sure.
On June 22, the cybersecurity leaders of all five Five Eyes countries signed a joint statement. That's Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the US.
The message was: AI isn't going to change cybersecurity in a few years. It's going to happen within months.
That's not the kind of thing governments usually say.
Government agencies are normally very careful with their wording. They like phrases such as "may happen," "could happen," or "over time." They rarely make bold predictions.
